Answer to the question “Where was Albert Einstein born?

Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879. This was the era of Imperial Germany, but the city that Einstein hailed from — Ulm — also lies within the country’s present-day borders. Einstein didn’t stay in Germany for long, though: In the 1890s, when he was just a teenager, he moved to Switzerland and renounced his German citizenship. There, he studied for several years in Zurich before getting a job at the Swiss patent office in Bern, where he did some of his best work as a physicist.

As his renown grew, he bounced around Europe for a bit, returning to Zurich and later spending time in Prague and Berlin. But when Nazism took hold in Germany, he headed across the Atlantic to the United States, where he lived from 1933 until his death in 1955. He never again returned to the country of his birth.
